What is Modernism?
Modernism refers to the popular style of art that emerged between the 1860s and the 1970s. It is an art movement in which tradition art forms were becoming out-dated due to industrialisation. Rather than artists painting religious or mythological scenes, artists started to make art about people, places or ideas that interest them from their experiences. Experimenting with new medias, artist created works of which challenged and rejected tradition. Artists embraced the political, social and economic changes of their world by exploring dreams and symbolism to depict their experiences and ideas.
